charlotte. >> more than 11,000 people turned out today. it's his last stop ahead of the democratic national convention. last week, the republican ticket scheduled its first post convention trip to virginia. if you have any doubt that the commonwealth is a hot commodity this november, consider this. take a look at the seating arrangement for the democratic national convention. virginia has one of the coveted four seat sections compared with maryland and d.c., which are barely even in the building. can we say battleground? congressman, paul ryan is representing the republican ticket while the democrats hold their convention at a reallily just outside of cleveland today. ryan compared president obama to president jimmy carter and went off vice president joe biden for saying the country is better off now than it was four years ago. mitt romney is said to be spending this week preparing for the debate. his motorcade, that's it right there, hit a snag today. when it had to wait for a slow moving tractor to get out of the way along a dirt road. not a lot of space. republicans have lost a battle

to keep the constitution party candidate off virginia's ballot. virgil would draw votes away from mitt romney. today, virginia state board of elections ruled good petitions were gathered legally. he can appear on the ballot in november. >> just months after losing his gig with the monday night football, hank williams is in the headlines again for what he is saying about president obama. the network fired the singer after he compared the president to adolf hitler.  this weekend at a texas music festival, he told the crowd, we have a muslim for a president who hates cowboys, hates cowgirls, hates fishing, hates farming, loves gays and we hate him. that comment drew applause from the crowd. no comment from the white house on that one tonight, so what do you think about williams' comment? do you care whoo any celebrity has to say about politics? do you think we aught to be giving it the time of day? we also have time for your comments on our facebook page

a bit of a reprieve for commuters who drive from downtown bethesda. that stretch that was slated to close today is still open. that's because the start of the
